First blog post

This is my first blog post!  So my name is Jason Scott Breniser and I started engaging in Yoga around July of 2016.  I found it difficult to find an online yoga instructor that went at a slow pace until I found Adriene Mishler.  I started a 30 day yoga camp with Adriene Mishler(Yoga with Adriene) and fell in love with the practice.

The most challenging obstacle was teaching myself to practice Yoga everyday and not Procrastinate and to stop and give up in the middle of practice.  Its very easy to say.”oh, well I’ll do a 60 min routine tomorrow and be better tomorrow.”   So I completed the 30 yoga camp practice in about 45 days, which wasn’t bad.

After the camp I continued to do the occasional yoga video when my wrists weren’t flaring up.   Its sometimes a little be frustrating, because the slightest compassionate movement can cause my right wrist to hurt and then I have to locate different yoga videos online for wrist pain, which takes away from my total body practice and makes me think that I don’t have the goods to be a teacher.  But I know now that I do.

So I ended up stopping yoga for about a couple months, packed on a few more pounds and hated myself a little bit more.  I realized that I needed to get back into the groove and find a space that will allow me to practice in peace, so I found my space and started practicing again like 3x’s a week, and built upon that.  I can do a successful headstand now for about 10 seconds on most days!

Sometimes I still have a wrist issue, but that OK.  That tells me that I need to pay attention more to my body and be sure to practice mindful wrist movements throughout the week.   Even on days when I haven’t got the energy to do a full body routine, I still try to incorporate a couple warrior movements and a mindful sun salutation into most days.

My goal is to continue to build my practice and lose some darn weight.  Unfortunately eating healthier is a slow process.  I would like to be a vegetarian one day and eat less cooked foods, but every meal I always cooking, grill, or baking it seems.  I’ve made a salad or two here and there, so that is a plus and have been trying not to eat so much later.   Its a little difficult because of the person I’m with. He works 2nd shift and since we eat together, I’ve timed my eating schedule to eat with him.

A goal for me by summer is to have completely cut out Pork products and reduce my meat consumption to %5-10 by Spring Season 2017 and to be at 220 lbs by March.  Right now I’m swinging back and forth around 230 lbs, which I don’t understand why.  Back when I was 20 years old, I ate a lot more junk and worked out much less and I was about 185-190 lbs… Now, I eat a bar of dark chocolate(yum) and gain like 10 lbs.   So that’s why I am at a 230 lb stand still, but not for long!!

(btw… That’s not a picture of me.. It came already in this post and it was very fitting.)
