To me,To describe what Yoga is, I would say that it’s Ayurvedic. Ayurvedic means balance between mind, body, and spirit. Balance, so to speak. From what I have seen that people have posted about Yoga lately, a lot of people see to not fully understand what Yoga really means. Yoga is not just exercise or a religious practice. One of the most common misconceptions is that Yoga is a religion, which it is not. Yoga is a balancing practice that is about balancing yourself within you and surrounding. So lets not be discouraged is you can’t do a headstand on your first day, because it’s not about who’s the most flexible. Just listen to your body and go with your own body, mind, and spiritual flow.
We also have the term “Namaste” which a lot of people seem to not understand. Namaste is a greeting or gesture meaning “hello” in a respectful manner. It also is a greeting saying “The spirit within me salutes the spirit in you.” In other terms it is acknowledging the soul in one by the soul of another, because there is a divine spark in each of us. By saying Namaste, you are saying “Thank You” to the teacher and to yourself. You are also showing your gratitude and respect for the practice as well as saying “hello” to the day. So after a yoga practice you are saying many gracious things with one world, while also greeting your wonderful day ahead of you.
Namaste.
